Who knew that learning handstands could change lives? I guess because I was upside down a lot of the time, my frown turned into a natural smile. As well as practising handstands and yoga, I read books that touched my heart, soul and mind. I gave myself permission to dress up nice and take myself out somewhere special – just because. I danced and let my inner little soul shine. Some days I still get lonely, sad and filled with regrets, but I now know that connecting with my breath, looking for positives and goofy dancing help a lot. I am learning to do things for me and have rebuilt my home with the things I like but which might not be to everybody else’s taste. Colours that calm me down, a plan to follow when things turn dark. A few people I try to treat right, even though I don’t always succeed despite my best intentions. I’m learning. I’m learning to make things awesome for myself. I’m learning every day that I save myself. And most importantly, that this is a life-long work in progress.

My best friend at school got stung by a wasp and couldn’t use her left hand. So i got nervous and learnt to use both hands for writing and sports. My first dog was called snuffy. It’s about caring for ourselves, finding a lifestyle that makes us feel good from the inside out. In the last 9 year I’ve never had a physical weight goal or look. I’ve not weighted myself, measured fat or had a 30 day program to follow. I’ve simply worked on myself mind and body daily and dreamed of learning new skills. Then I showed up with the upward spiral for kindness to feel well and work on me. This has lead me to where I am today. I don’t know the perfect way to keep fit, get flexible or get 6 pack abs. There’s many different ways. However I do know that fitness is always from the inside and to become who you want to be you have to choose wisely your thoughts, create actions and habits that support that, find joy in the experience and keep showing up consistently. I share my movement & write because I often don’t know who I am, with the outside noise & internal chaos. Movement is the butterflies in your stomach through the excitement for more. Movement is the body jiggling & wiggling as you can’t sit still. Movement is that first kiss. Movement is the grief that shatters you into a 1000 pieces. Movement is your mouth moving through long conversations that make you come alive & believe in magic again. I’m honestly a mother scared to bring my daughter up in this world. I am struggling with the complexities of it & the lack of responsibility we as humans are taking. It took me over an hour to write this post and it's free and someone told me that it's not good enough. This is our world, the free or even what we give and never had before and others dreamed of is no longer a blessing. I’m struggling with the numbers & algorithms game & the lack of teaching we as humans have to not judge, shame and see more than one story. I am struggling with the labels game that tends to separate us more than connect us as we are still put in boxes rather than allowed to just be. I’m struggling with the game of darkness & busyness. When we try to connect to each other we say Im busy or ghost but yet still scroll on average 2 hrs a day on social media. I wish we saw how lucky we are to have people & resources at the tap of our fingers and yet we still don’t use them with our actions, we just scroll and say they didn’t work. I’m struggling with how we don’t share our friends and families' businesses and go fund me accounts because it won’t get enough likes but complain about the big corporations. I’m struggling with the fact we all dont see our own things we can change and that we all have a choice but we just dont take action and complain & judge about everyone else instead. I’m struggling because we spend more time liking and commenting on strangers than texting our friends and family. I’m struggling because we now have free exercise, yoga, meditation, and how tos, DIYs and learn a language skills online now etc. Yet we don’t use them and complain they are not good enough. And truth be told, once upon a time we had to pay for everything. Now everyone has access to things we used to wish for and we still complain and blame others for why we can’t do things instead of taking our true responsibility to respond and change. I’m struggling with the power of comparisons being the theft of Joy. We all forget because of our highlight reels that nobody has it easy and we are all struggling. I personally believe it was hard living in my grandma's and grandfathers generation, my mums and dads generation and my generation is hard too. I believe it’ll be hard in my daughter's generation too. However I believe we also need to realise how much power we have and how much we aren’t using what is free. For example: Our breath for mental health. Online free fitness and health information for our real wealth and health. Friends and family to connect too, 24/7 free on wifi at the touch of our fingertips. The ability to choose how long we spend on social media and spend doing things to better ourselves. You see it’s hard living a life we don’t like and enjoy and it’s hard changing. However, changing and doing hard creates less suffering and more joy. Adversity and building resilience creates more joy and strength and connection and making time for what matters creates more joy. So much of what we need to change is free and no money is needed and it is our choice too. Let us imagine a year from now. You didn’t call your friend. You didn’t work on your health. You didn’t change your diet. You didn’t get off social media. You didn’t follow people you like. You didn’t use your breath for mental health. You stayed where you were struggling… In a year from now your mental health, health and fitness would be worse. You’d feel worse about yourself as your social media makes you compare and judge and not inspired. Your friends and family’s connections are broken as you didn’t reach out and you feel alone. Now imagine if you did all that starting from where you are doing the hard work. However the outcome is.. You feel stronger, fitter, healthier, more joyful. Your social media inspires you and lifts you when you lack motivation You have friends and family that support you. Both started from hard, both are hard to stay in the cycle or do the work but one yields better tomorrows and the other worse tomorrows. You choose your HARD because it is a choice you have. It is always hard but there are better hardships and harder hardships.
